Presentation
The fundamental source for this website is the collection of volumes edited by HERBERT S. KLEIN AND JOHN J. TEPASKE, THE ROYAL TREASURIES OF THE SPANISH EMPIRE IN AMERICA, 16TH-18TH CENTURIES published by Duke University Press (1982-1990). We have also included the data from LOS INGRESOS Y EGRESOS DE LA REAL HACIENDA DE LA NUEVA ESPAÑA published by the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (1986). We thank the authors for their permission to present this great database online. The cooperation of Daniel Cosío Villegas Library at El Colegio de México is also essential to maintain the website online for use by the academic community.
We converted the original fiscal series into Excel files to make them easier to consult and use. We hope that other academic institutions can establish links to facilitate widespread use. Relevant links can also be found in the Mexican Economic History Association (AMHE).
We have included Klein and TePaske’s introductions to the three volumes of The Royal Treasuries of the Spanish Empire in America, with their associated translations to Spanish, and will be adding some additional materials in the future.
The present website was possible thanks to the collaboration of many people, including Gustavo Alberto Ruiz Muñoz, Irasema Infante, Abelardo Herrero Pérezrul and Jorge Rolando Rodríguez Ariano. Erika Márquez was chiefly in charge of putting the files into Excel tables, and Eduardo Rivero designed the original site and we thank them. The site has been modified in recent years into a new WordPress format, and Dr. Sergio Serrano added historical maps and took charge of various translations of texts. Dr. Ernest Sánchez Santiró has also collaborated with expert advice, as well as numerous colleagues.
Sergio Serrano Hernández is the current academic coordinator of the webpage.
